Her Honour, The Honourable Janice C.  Filmon, C.M., O.M.,
Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba
will be laying a wreath at the
“They Grew’ Not Old” Memorial Monument
at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Brandon MB.
The Tribute will take place on
Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 at 2 PM

2016 is the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Women’s Division of the RCAF.
The RCAF was the first of the armed services to invite women into their ranks and not just as an auxiliary but as a division of their own. The Museum will be paying tribute to the 31 RCAF Women’s Division Personnel who died during the Second World War and are listed on the Monument.

Brigadier General Kenny of RCAF 1 Canadian Air Division and RCAF 17 Wing C/O Col. Cook will also be in attendance.

2016 is also the 75th anniversary of the official opening of Service Flying Training School #12 where the Museum is now housed and this is the year the RCAF has chosen to commemorate the Commonwealth Air Training Plan.  Winston Churchill declared the plan to be: “Canada’s greatest contribution to the Allied Victory”.

Coffee will be served after the service.
The public is encouraged to attend.

WWII veterans are asked to contact the Museum at

Prairie Author to Speak at Museum Luncheon
Anne Gafiuk has a close relationship with the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton, Alberta. They have published two of her books and she is working on a third.

All three of her books centre on the how the people of the prairies ‘did their bit’ during the Second World War. Anne will be speaking to the

Women of the War Years Luncheon on
Wednesday, October 5th
in the Museum’s historic Canteen.

Her topic will be her second book “She Made Them Family”. The Women of the War Years Committee is raising funds for their travelling display.  The Display tells the story of how the Women of World War II took on roles that opened the door for future generations.

Tickets may still be available for the luncheon;  please call 204-728-4616.

At The
PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE AIR SHOW

The CATPM made its presence known at the Air Show in Portage La Prairie June 4, 2016.
We took a well-stocked trailer of items from the Museums Gift Shop and
set up shop on the "cold ramp" beside
the 1940 Harvard MKIIa, 1943 Cornell and the 1940 Stinson HW75.
Grant Shaw brought the 1940 Chevy Staff car on display and
we used it to shuttle our volunteers to and from the gate.

Here is the "rigger" ready to show air show patrons the cockpits of the Harvard.
Who knows, maybe one of the many young people he helped to sit in the aircraft may go on to join our modern forces. . .

Where to tomorrow?
